How to overcome fear
STEPPING OUT OF FEAR Who hasn’t felt fear right? I remember being in my late 20’s feeling quite fearless or what I thought was fearlessness. The feeling of perhaps terror or intense fear was what I related to as fear but there are a range of subtle emotions that are different and varying degrees of fear too. Emotions like anxiety, worry, concern and dread all can be different levels of fear. I was feeling a lot of anxiety at that time of my life as I was holding onto a life that wasn’t right for me but I didn’t have the confidence to step out. Anxiety, worry and concern are all fears that are projected onto a future timeline. The further away the fear the less the amplitude. Fear becomes more intense the closer we feel the threat to be.
Our emotions are part of our guidance system and as such will affect our behaviour. My fear of what I had to do to be in alignment with my truth was actually terrifying deep down. I needed to face the fear of not being liked or upsetting others, of breaking tradition. In other words the fear of rejection was underpinning my decision making process. It wasn’t until I faced the fear of what that meant and what I had to call up from deep inside of me that I was able to transform that fear into courage and even allow the excitement and anticipation of my new life to take centre stage.
Our bodies are hardwired for survival. Consequently we have aversions from anything that would threaten our chances of survival. Emotions like fear are a warning from the survival system that something we value is being threatened. The only problem is unless we are willing to see what that actually is we will be running old programs that block us from living truly in the moment in a powerful way. We will be living a reactive life of survival instead of a rich life of creativity and thriving. IN SEARCH OF THE HOLY GRAIL The search of the Holy Grail is a mythical tale of the Knights of the round table on a quest to find the most sought after artefact known as the Holy Grail. The Holy Grail is symbolic for a treasure that has immense power and can provide eternal happiness, youth and infinite abundance. This higher state is what is accessible to humans as we rise out of the lower primal states.
Each Knight that set upon the quest to find the Grail would set off into the forest (symbolic of the unconscious or hidden terrain of the human psyche). Their journey would begin at the part of the forest that each of the Knights would find personally the most challenging or frightening. It was believed that to possess something of such great value the journey would be as equally treacherous and require enormous amounts of strength and courage to complete. The greatest treasures in life come from facing our deepest fears.
Our DNA is encoded with incredible powers of creation as well as our purpose. When we are in frequencies like fear, guilt, grief or shame it blocks access to our highest potential. However if we follow our fear down to its root then we have access to transform that emotion, unlock our dormant spiritual gifts and uncover our purpose. This is the journey of the Hero. This is the holy quest.
It’s one thing to say we need to let go of our fear and live a thriving life but its simply another matter to do it. It’s the how that is the question a lot of the time. I have provided a step by step worksheet that gives you great tips on the ‘How’.
